Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis)

Height: 12-25’
Width: 20-30’
Growth Rate: slow
Soil: loam
Moisture: moist
Shade Tolerance:  part shade

Uses: landscaping, ornamental
Spacing: minimum 10’ x 10’
Habitat: Prefers moist, well-drained loamy soil and full sun to partial shade. Salt spray sensitive.
Notes: Trees flower when 4-5 years old, short lived in urban areas, salt sensitive.

Small native tree with attractive pink to lavender flowers in late April to early May, heart-shaped leaves through the summer, and brown, 2-3” seed pods in the fall and winter. Stems have a zigzag appearance. Redbud can be used as a lawn tree, specimen tree or in woodland plantings.
