Silver Maple (Acer saccarinum)

Height: 50-70’
Width: 40-60’
Growth Rate: rapid
Soil: sand, clay, loam
Moisture: moist
Shade Tolerance:  sun

Flower Color: red
Uses: shade tree
Spacing: minimum 10’ x 10’
Habitat: Full sun. Tolerates a wide range of soil conditions, drought and seasonal flooding.
Notes: Branches brittle, roots can cause structural damage.

Silver maple has aggressive surface roots that can clog septic systems and drains and crack pavement. Fall color is not very showy; leaves fall when green or turn a yellowish green. Used as a shade tree. Will tolerate very poor soil conditions and harsh urban environments.
