Gray dogwood Gray dogwood is a medium sized, hedge forming shrub. At Big Eastern, it is most often found at the edge of an oak woods in wet sand. This example has more impressive flowers than most; it is growing on the south side of a canal in black sand, in an area occassionally flooded. The fruits are white drupes on brIn damp sandy areas, this is a good candidate for horticultural use, and has been recommended for planting under power lines. It is slow growing, but the literature suggests there is some risk of it spreading aggresively. ight red pedicels. The fruits are eaten by birds. |
