Sugar Maple The Sugar Maple is the most important hardwoods in the eastern forests and also the largest native maple. The tree is long lived but has a slow growth rate, it can reach a height of 75 to 100 feet. Maples are a complex species because it is a different tree depending on where it is located. Most Sugar Maples like moist, fertile, well-drained, clay to loam soils with partial shade. The leaves are dark green in summer turning brilliant yellow, orange and sometimes red in fall. The tree has an extensive commercial value for wood and syrup but has many other uses such as; cooperage, veneer, flooring, cabinets, and interior trim. Ideal, sturdy shade tree. |
